Rooms placement directions according to Vastu Shastra?

Which rooms should be placed in which direction according to Vastu Shastra?

Vastu Shastra, an ancient Indian architectural and design philosophy, suggests certain guidelines for placing rooms in different directions within a building. While these recommendations can vary based on the specific Vastu Shastra school or practitioner, here are some common guidelines for the placement of rooms in relation to cardinal directions:

East Direction (Purva):

Pooja Room: The northeast corner of the house is considered highly auspicious for a pooja (prayer) room. It should face east to receive the morning sunlight.

North Direction (Uttara):

Master Bedroom: The southwest corner of the house is recommended for the master bedroom.

Guest Room: A guest room or a study room can be placed in the northwest corner.

West Direction (Paschim):

Children’s Bedroom: The northwest corner is suitable for a children’s bedroom.

Study Room: A study room can also be placed in the west, preferably in the northwest.

South Direction (Dakshina):

Kitchen: The southeast corner is considered the ideal location for the kitchen. Also, the cooking platform should face east.

Living Room: The living room can be placed in the south or southwest portion of the house.

Center (Brahmasthan):

The central area of the house, known as the brahmasthan, should generally be kept open and uncluttered to allow positive energy (prana) to flow freely. It’s not advisable to have bedrooms or toilets in this area.

Rooms and others:

Toilets and bathrooms should ideally be located in the northwest or southeast corners of the house. So, avoid placing them in the northeast, southwest, or center of the building, as these areas are considered inauspicious.

Store Room: A storage room can be placed in the south or west direction.

Veranda/Balcony: Balconies or verandas should be located in the north or east, also allowing for a good flow of natural light and air.

Garage/Car Parking: Also, the garage or car parking area is best situated in the northwest or southeast corners of the plot.

Staircase: If you have a multi-story house, the staircase should ideally be located in the south, west, or southwest portion, but not in the center.

It’s important to note that while Vastu Shastra principles offer guidelines for optimal room placement, practical considerations, the layout of your plot, and personal preferences should also be taken into account. Vastu can provide a framework for creating a harmonious living environment, but it’s not a strict set of rules. Consulting with a Vastu expert or architect who is knowledgeable about Vastu principles can help you adapt these guidelines to your specific situation and create a balanced and comfortable living space.
